About

The Full Story

We named this special property after our Great Great Great Grandfather, and Missouri River Steamboat Captain, Drayton LaVenture.

Born in 1816, Drayton represents the many French families who migrated from Rouen, France, through Quebec, Canada and ultimately made homes in St. Louis, Missouri at the turn of the 19th century.

With the bravery it takes to set forth a life in a new country, Drayton became a Steamboat Captain at 24 years old. Drayton was the first to captain the most dangerous route on the Missouri River at the time, the route from St. Louis - through Hermann - ending in Montana. He was very well paid for the times, earning $1000 per month, in the 1840's.

We can not help but wonder how many times, throughout his career, our Great Great Great Grandfather Drayton LaVenture stopped in Hermann on his way North, and who he met along the way.

With that said, and with tremendous pride, we have dedicated this beautiful building to his memory.

May you enjoy the history, attention to detail, and the amenities of the Drayton Guest Suites.
